Championing fair compensation

Koda is a non-profit, member-owned music rights organization with more than 51,000 members, including composers, songwriters, and music publishers. As a collective management organization, Koda’s main task is to ensure copyright owners receive fair remuneration from those who listen to and use their music, and to make the music industry more sustainable—socially, environmentally, and economically.

Koda strives to be among the top global elite of rights organizations. This is achieved, in part, through the development of digital solutions that serve their members and approximately 25,000 customers who pay to use music. One of the goals has been to ensure that Koda’s website—whose main aim is to communicate about a complex industry —is relatable, transparent, and capable of holding different kinds of content for various user groups

Emphasizing transparancy and trust

To establish Koda more firmly as a modern and competitive rights organisation, the new digital strategy emphasizes transparency and trust while maintaining an intuitive user experience. By streamlining the complexities of music rights management, the platform will serve as a trusted resource for both.

Koda’s web landscape will provide a frictionless experience for members, customers and partners. The new platform effectively communicates Koda’s role in shaping a sustainable music industry, ensuring users can easily navigate rights management and licensing processes.

UX and design as drivers for progress
The main drivers for the collaboration have been creating a seamless user experience, easy navigation and a scalable Design System.

  • Information Architecture: The new Information Architecture has been developed through user testing and data analysis, while also considering scalability to future-proof content creation for Koda.

  • User Testing: Engaging real users has been a key part of the process—both to gain insights into their needs and challenges and to continuously validate the new design.

  • Design System: A system of reusable components has been designed and built in Figma and Storybook to support Koda's digital growth. This design system and its principles create a consistent brand experience while maintaining a sustainable setup.

A design system is not just about documenting design, it's a reusable system to help Design & Development create consistent experiences which helps Koda's users.

The drums keep beating

The collaboration with Koda is ongoing - next up is looking at Koda's members' self service platform, where we expect even more user insights and building on top of the newly developed Design System. We're looking forward to extend the collaboration on creating real value for Koda, their customers and their members!
