Keeping us and our clients protected from digital fraud

Imagine an employee clicking on a link in what looks like an ordinary email. In a split second, the company’s systems, data, and perhaps even customer information, could be at risk. It may sound dramatic, but for far too many businesses this is an unfortunate reality.

Spotlight on digital fraud

October marks both National and EU Cybersecurity Month - a perfect opportunity to shine a light on phishing and digital fraud.

As a digital agency, this topic is especially close to our hearts. That’s why we’re highlighting how we help our clients make life harder for fraudsters. We’ve spoken with our COO & Technical Director, Tommy Davis, to get his insights on how to best protect against digital fraud.

According to Ritzau, phishing is one of the biggest digital threats today. It’s no longer just about technology. It’s about people. Phishing emails can appear to come from executives or well-known suppliers, often embedding entire conversations to look completely legitimate. Even the most IT-savvy employees can be fooled. And with AI, fraudsters can replicate websites almost perfectly. One click can lead to a fake site that’s nearly indistinguishable from the real one.

That’s why it’s more important than ever for companies not only to have the right technology in place, but also to ensure that people and processes are part of the equation. Digital fraud may never disappear entirely, but there’s a lot we can do to limit its impact.

A digital attack can strike any business - large or small. And the consequences can be critical for operations, data, and customers alike.

How we work with digital security

A culture built on security

At Adapt, we see our employees as the first line of defense. That’s why we train everyone to spot suspicious emails and think critically before clicking. One way we do this is through realistic quizzes that mirror real-life scenarios.

On top of that, our internal processes and systems are built around the principle of defense in depth - multiple layers of protection to ensure that a single breach doesn’t compromise the entire platform. And as an ISAE 3402-certified agency, we have documented controls in place for operational reliability and data security, providing assurance both for us and for our partners.

The goal isn’t for everyone to catch everything - but to raise awareness and encourage more critical thinking going forward.

Customer security built In from the start

When we develop digital solutions for our clients, security is built in from day one. It’s not an afterthought. We design the architecture, infrastructure, and processes so that security is an integral part of the solution.

This ensures that our solutions protect both users and data effectively, while minimizing the risk of digital fraud.

With our ISAE 3402 certification, we can also demonstrate that our solutions meet the highest standards. At the same time, we take into account the EU’s NIS2 directive, which sets stricter requirements for IT security and risk management in companies with critical or digital services. For our clients, that means the solutions we deliver not only meet top industry standards but also help them stay compliant with regulations.

Phishing doesn’t just target Individuals - it targets brands

Many underestimate the consequences. When customers fall victim to fraud in which a company’s name is misused, trust is undermined. And trust is the very foundation of any brand. Support costs rise, credibility declines, and in the worst case, customers are lost.

That’s why it’s important to understand that digital security isn’t only about systems. It’s about people, processes, and awareness. The best investment is training employees and building solutions that make it harder for fraudsters to break through - before it’s too late.

Speaking of too late. We highly recommend you join our next Hanegal event on 20th of November before seats are filled up. The theme is phishing and we have a great line-up of speakers who will share how you can protect your business against the phishing threats of the future.

Phishing isn’t just an IT problem — it’s also a brand problem. When customers experience fraud through your communication, it directly impacts trust and credibility. And that has to be taken seriously.
