A digital defence for every Dane
Beating digital scammers is a constant battle because they never stop evolving. It takes daily attention and smart technology to stay one step ahead. Now that scammers are turning to AI to target more people than ever with smarter scams, the threat has never been more real.
That's the reality facing millions of Danes today. One-third have already fallen victim to digital fraud, while three out of four have experienced attempts. The need for collective protection has never been more urgent - and that's exactly what Forbrugerrådet Tænk and TrygFonden set out to address with their 'Mit Digitale Selvforsvar' app.
In 2025, they turned to us to help upgrade and modernize the app, transforming it into a future-ready tool capable of empowering all Danes to protect themselves and others from increasingly sophisticated threats.

Community-driven defence transforms individual vulnerability into collective strength.

A shared responsibility
When Forbrugerrådet Tænk and TrygFonden launched the 'Mit Digitale Selvforsvar' app in 2017, it provided valuable protection against digital scams. As AI-powered fraud evolved, the app needed to evolve too. The challenge was cultural as much as technical. While 83% of Danes support helping each other against fraud, 29% of victims never seek help and 40% don't know how to assist others.
Many feel uncertain about where to turn or whether authorities will respond. We saw an opportunity to bridge this gap by modernizing the app with features that foster community awareness, transforming digital defense from a solitary struggle into shared responsibility.

Built for an evolving threat landscape
The upgraded 'Mit Digitale Selvforsvar' app aims to become Denmark's go-to digital protection tool and reduce fraud victims nationwide. Below key features enable users to act quickly and support one another.
Real-time feedback delivers instant alerts about emerging threats, helping users make informed decisions when it matters most.
Tip allow the users to submit tips about suspicious activity online.
Trusted Friend (Betroet Ven) lets users designate contacts who can share tips, and enable them to provide feedback when doubt arises.
Investigate is a search function allowing users to look for fraud incidents that are older than 30 days based on type, company or platform.
These features help reduce the shame and isolation that prevent victims from seeking help, transforming digital defence into collective action..

It's now possible to investigate suspicious messages with confidence and community support.

Fighting the AI challenge with AI
A key driver for the upgrade was the rise of AI-powered fraud. While many Danes feel confident spotting traditional scams, that confidence fades with AI threats - which are already being used in advanced phishing and manipulation tactics today.
Most Danes worry AI makes fraud harder to detect and doubt their ability to recognize AI-driven scams. To combat this, the upgraded app provides timely alerts, educational resources, and community verification tools that help users navigate sophisticated threats.
Using the power of AI ourselves, we have strengthened fraud detection and streamlined responses, fighting AI challenge with AI. The system has mapped over 215,000 connections between approximately 4,200 submitted tips, automatically identifying duplicate reports and patterns. When users report suspicious activity, they instantly see if others have encountered the same scam. AI has also matched 4,300 tips to relevant partner organizations, ensuring reports reach the right authorities quickly.

Impact beyond the individual
The upgraded app strengthens society, not just individuals. In Denmark, thousands of reported fraud case triggers a police investigation - 39,824 were reported in 2024 alone, straining limited resources and taxpayer money.
By preventing fraud and educating the public, the app eases pressure on law enforcement while keeping money away from criminals. It's a win for individuals, authorities, and Danish society.

Finding fraud warnings and guidance wherever Danes are.
