Creating the largest talent platform in the country

For 15 years DR has been helping danish musicians chase their dreams through their Karrierekanonen-initiative. But with their current platform outdated, DR wanted a whole new platform, to deliver a whole new experience – for both the bands, and the users. And that’s exactly what we created.

The Purpose

The DR Karrierekanonen website is the central platform for the entire program. It is the place where the musicians submit their music, and where the users go to discover, and vote for, these new upcoming bands. But their platform was outdated. DR wanted to create a platform that was more user friendly, flexible, and, as a site dedicated to music, they wanted an advanced music player. And all of it had to work flawlessly across any device.

The Approach

With the goal clearly established, we immediately started prototyping the new site. Due to specific guidelines from DR we opted to build the entire site on custom code, with a lot of the frontend development also custom written in JavaScript. This means, that the site’s performance is fantastic, even during high volumes of traffic and streaming. We also did a complete UX setup on the editor interface, enabling the editors to easier and more quickly be able to review, change and update the site, even on the go.

We built a responsive, mobile first site on a brand new and highly-efficient Node.js-based platform. At the same time, we have moved all the old users, musicians and their music from an Azure / MSSQL environment to an AWS / PostgreSQL solution without noticeable downtime.

The Solution

Working closely with the Karrierekanonen team, we delivered a high performing site that easily fulfilled all the goals established by DR. The new site delivers a much smoother experience, and the system architecture enables the Karrierekanonen team to keep it up to speed with the digital development for years to come.
